MIND BODY THERAPY
Have you been in therapy for a while and feel like you haven’t made much progress?
Are you interested in trying some of the most innovative treatment methods that have proven to speed up the process of therapy and get dramatic results?
Do you have body complaints such as headaches, stomachaches or other types of pain for which there is no medical explanation?
Mind Body Therapy is a therapeutic method that recognizes the fact that our feelings and subconscious thoughts directly effect how our body reacts and functions. Talk therapy and medication are often useful but neither one does a very good job at addressing the part of the brain that “stores” our subconscious where healing and change can occur at deeper level. Scientific research such as brain scans show how the brain changes in reaction to even mildly distressing thoughts and feelings. More disturbing life events and chronic emotional stress have been medically tied to any number of physical symptoms such as headaches, rashes and back pain. Medical doctors are sometimes at a loss to explain physical symptoms before recognizing the Mind-Body connection. They often refer their patients for psychotherapy as there is a wide body of support for the effectiveness of Mind Body Therapies such as EMDR. Brainspotting is a recent and powerful Mind Body Therapy.
The underlying belief in Mind Body Therapy is that the cells of the body are affected by all of our life experiences which are stored in our conscious and subconscious mind. Unfortunately the subconscious is difficult to access in talk therapy. Most often, our subconscious reveals itself to us through body sensations, emotions/feelings, and images. Because talk therapy typically accesses the conscious part of the brain, it is limited in its ability to provide people with complete relief from their symptoms, negative self-thoughts, or problematic behavior.
| Childhood and life experiences shape who we are. As a result, the subconscious stores thoughts or beliefs of which we may not be aware, but drive our behavior. If we have many negative self-thoughts, we are likely to find life to be less than fulfilling. Do you find yourself sometimes thinking? |
