PARENT COORDINATOR

family

The concept of Parent Coordinator (PC) is a relatively new alternative dispute intervention that is used to manage high-conflict custody and visitation cases. Family Court judges have been overwhelmed and frustrated with “frequent flier” families that ask the Court to quickly rule on and resolve all matters, big and small, but which are important to the parents. In high-conflict separations or divorces, parenting issues crop up with great frequency and constantly asking the Court to address the problems is both untimely and expensive. An alternate strategy to manage such disputes as they arise is through the use of a Parent Coordinator.

Have you been to Court more than a few times to address the same issues, but always seem to come away with no real resolution?

When you go to Court and a ruling is made, do you find the other parent ignores it and you’re back in Court again and again?

Have you been to Co-parent Counseling, Family Counseling and through a Custody Evaluation, but find the same conflicts between you and the other parent are still there?

Are you frustrated that when an irresolvable conflict between you and the other parent crops up there’s no one to help, and the earliest Court date is weeks away. You’re thinking, “We need help right away!”

Have you spent far too much money and far too much time on lawyers and going to Court, only to have the Judge(s) become fed up and angry?

A Parent Coordinator (PC)
appointed by the Court to whom parents can turn when in dispute on matters relating to the children. Parents may access the service of a Parenting Coordinator in a more timely fashion and costs are almost always less than going to Court. The role of the Parenting Coordinator is to help parents come to a successful resolution between themselves. The PC has “quasi judicial” powers, so they may rule upon parenting matters and have both parents abide by the ruling.
