PSYCHOLOGICAL TESTING
Do you have the feeling that something is not “quite right” with your child?
Confused about your child’s problems and wondering why your child isn’t reaching his/her full potential?
Wondering if your child might have ADHD, bi-polar disorder or a learning disability?
Not getting answers from the school as to why your child is not doing as well as you think they should?
Psychological testing is generally performed by a licensed psychologist to assess the reasons for the problems the child is having. Typically, parents seek testing when:
a teacher reports that the child is inattentive and/or fidgety in school
the child does not appear to be performing up to their ability
to pinpoint the reasons for a child’s misbehavior
to understand the child’s lack of motivation in school
avoidance of homework
changes in a child’s emotional state for which there is no plausible explanation
Psychological testing can determine whether a child’s inattentiveness, impulsivity, or disruptive behavior is due to Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD), Bi-polar Disorder, Anxiety or an underlying Learning Disability. Psychological testing for problems that are solely emotional cannot necessarily pinpoint the cause of the problem but can give clues that can help guide the therapist and parent in the best ways to help the child.
Psychological testing is generally used to assess:
Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) while ruling out other disorders such as Anxiety or Bi-polar Disorder
Learning Disorders
Possibility of sexual abuse as an explanation for significant behavioral changes
